VITAMIN E: WHY IT’S THE LUNEIA-LOVED ESSENTIAL YOU NEED IN YOUR SKINCARE ROUTINE

Famous for its antioxidant and hydrating qualities, Vitamin E is a powerhouse ingredient that’s a renowned saviour for drier skin. Part of the natural make up of healthy skin, vitamin E is built in to fight external aggressors like pollution and sun damage, but decreases with time - which weakens its ability to fight against the signs of aging.

As one of the key ingredients in our Radiance Ritual Glow Mask, here’s our lowdown as to why you need to top it up in your routine.

WHY VITAMIN E IS A LUNEIA-APPROVED SKINCARE ESSENTIAL

It’s a key ingredient for moisture levels, healing and protection of the lipid barrier

One of the key qualities of vitamin E is its amazing hydrating qualities. As vitamin E is oil-soluble, you will often find it in moisturisers or oils, making it super simple to fit into your daily routine. If you need some help with your daily skincare basics, click here.

Once your chosen vitamin E product has been absorbed, its anti-inflammatory and skin healing benefits kick in, making it essential for irritated or super dry skin types. Vitamin E has the ability to accelerate healing of skin damage such as burns and wounds by as much as 50%.

Vitamin E can also calm redness and help rebuild the skin's lipid barrier, working to ‘seal up’ any little cracks in the barrier, enabling a boost in long-lasting retention of moisture and smooth skin.

It’s an antioxidant and protects from the sun

Vitamin E is an antioxidant that works to combat against free radicals, protecting the skin from external damage. This does not mean that it is a sufficient sun protection or an alternative to SPF, but in forming part of the skin’s natural defences it does work against free radicals including UV rays and others that come into contact with the skin’s epidermis.

Used alongside your daily SPF, vitamin E gives you that extra protection you need against environmental aggressors. If you need a masterclass in SPF, take a look at our breakdown of why it’s an essential part of your routine EVERY.SINGLE.DAY.

Due to its antioxidant benefits, vitamin E can discourage sebum oxidation, which works to prevent the oil in pores turning dark from the oxidation process, therefore preventing blackheads.

SHOULD I BE USING VITAMIN E?

Vitamin E is suitable for most skin types, particularly those with dry skin however, very sensitive skin should avoid using vitamin E. In most skincare products, it is used in small doses, which is why it does not have the comedogenic or ‘pore-clogging’ effect.

WHICH INGREDIENTS PLAY WELL WITH VITAMIN E?

To up hydration levels, vitamin E works well with other humectant ingredients like Squalane, providing levels of moisture for healthy and plump skin.

You can read more about why we love squalane here in our ingredients spotlight.
Vitamin E and C create an excellent team when paired together as oil-soluble vitamin E penetrates deeper into the skin, whist vitamin C works to leave you with bright skin on the surface level.

Due to Vitamin E’s hydration and protective qualities that we decided it was an essential ingredient in our Radiance Ritual Glow Mask.
